December 20, 2011Sibelius 7.1 Kontakt 5 Update

Kontakt 5 Autoloading

With the release of Sibelius 7.1 on Monday, autoloading functionality has been restored for Kontakt 5. The Kontakt 5 and Retro Machines MK2 sound set packages and documentation have been updated as well, and now include full support for automatic loading in Sibelius 7.1 and higher.

This is a free update for all current users of the Kontakt 5 and/or Retro Machines MK2 sound sets. Users will receive more information by email within 24 hours.

As a reminder for those of you who have held off to see if autoloading would be back for Kontakt 5, the Retro Machines MK2 sound set is currently free with purchase of the Kontakt 5 sound set. This offer will end January 1, 2012 so head over to the Native Instruments page and save a few $$! If you're using the Kontakt 4 sound set, don't forget to check your eligibility for reduced upgrade pricing.

Order and Support Delays

Over the past several weeks orders and support requests have been severely delayed. If you've written in and not yet received a response, please know that you are not being ignored and responses are being sent as quickly as possible.

Orders are currently taking up to 36 hours to process, and should be back on track in the next several days. Thanks for your patience.

Website Availability

The Sound Set Project website will be offline for an as of yet undetermined period of time beginning no sooner than December 30. While it's hoped to keep downtime to a minimum, it's not possible to say with any certainty how long it will be. During this time the entire site, including sound set downloads, will be unavailable. Users are encouraged to download a fresh copy of their sound sets as a precaution in case something goes wrong in their setup while the site is down.

Kurzweil

Roland

An error has been discovered in some of the Roland Juno-G and Roland Juno-DI sound set packages that resulted in users receiving incorrect files in their download. All of the packages have now been fixed and users will receive further instructions by email within 24 hours.

NEWS

EWQL "Hollywood" Series

I am very happy to finally be able to say on-the-record that sound sets for EastWest/Quantum Leap's Hollywood Strings and Hollywood Brass are in development and expected to be released in Q4 2011. System requirements and pricing information are TBD.

EWQLSO [Kontakt] Sound Sets

Due to an overwhelming response, having clearly mistaken the number of remaining users, the EWQLSO [Kontakt] sound sets will be re-released. These sound sets will be in entirely new form based on the success of the PLAY edition sound sets. The re-release is not without concern, however, and in order to limit availability as much as possible to legitimate users it will require some sort of application, including verification of authorization, before orders will be accepted. Details of what this process will look like are not entirely known at this point, but I will try to make it as painless as possible. Release is expected in late 2011 - early 2012.

Sonivox Symphonic Collection

Sound sets for the Sonivox Symphonic Collection libraries are progressing fast and are currently being tested. The sound sets for the five libraries that comprise this collection (Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, Strings, Harp) will be available individually and in a reduced-price bundle for users of all five titles; the bundle will also include combined sound sets and House Styles for convenience as well as the individual library files to make mixing libraries an easier task. Release is expected in Q4 2011.

Miscellaneous Other

Work continues on a significant update for the Vir2 VI.ONE sound set and several other sound sets are in varying stages of development. Efforts through the end of the 2011 into 2012 will be focused on adding new developers to the sound set list and expanding the range of resources available from the SSP. It's a bit too early for specifics but I'm confident the results will have something to offer users of all levels. As always, if you have anything specific you would like to see, libraries that need integrated, or have any other questions or suggestions please don't hesitate to let me know!

SIBELIUS 7

Compatibility

AVID/Sibelius has released Sibelius 7 today and I am very pleased to announce that the current versions of all sound sets are fully supported in Sibelius 7! Nearly all sound sets are Sibelius 7 ready meaning any files needed specifically for Sibelius 7 are available immediately.

Several sound sets, including EWQLSO Play v3, Kontakt 4 and Stormdrum 2 v2 are not yet Sibelius 7 ready as other updates are pending. This does not mean that they will not work in Sibelius 7, only that you'll need to continue to work with the Sibelius 6 files when using Sibelius 7 for a short while longer.

Users will receive specific information regarding the sound sets they are using by email within 24 hours.

Discontinued / Older Versions

Discontinued products, such as the EWQLSO [Kontakt] sound sets, and sound sets that are not the currently available version are not officially supported in Sibelius 7. While they should generally work ok, there is no guarantee of compatibility either with Sibelius 7 or any current sound set. As a reminder, previous versions of any sound set are not supported when used together with the current versions.

June 2, 2011EWQLSO [Kontakt] Sound Set Discontinuation

After much consideration, it's been decided that the EWQLSO [Kontakt] Sibelius Sound Sets will be discontinued on July 1, 2011. Reasons for the discontinuation are many, however the most pertinent are:

Products (libraries) are no longer available
Magnet for users of pirated/cracked software
Number of legitimate users has fallen greatly due to availability of the PLAY edition
Protection against fraudulent sales due to traffic sourced from software piracy sites

This does not necessarily signal the end of EWQLSO [Kontakt] sound sets entirely, it remains possible that new/updated sound sets will be available at some point in the future.

The exact method of distribution, should new sound sets be released, is not yet decided. An application process is being considered, and, regardless of method, potential users will be required to submit (requested) information proving they are using a legitimate copy of the library.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.

All current users of the EWQLSO [Kontakt] Sound Sets are encouraged to download a copy of the sound set for their archives from the EastWest page.

These are significant updates and address previous issues such as incompatible House Style settings while improving integration and offering new features. Some of the changes include the addition of custom instrument staffs for all patches in the libraries, consistent playback dictionaries, documented articulation/technique changes and general compatibility changes.

The EWQLSO [Play] v3 Silver sound set has been updated to v3.0.1; Gold and Platinum have been updated to v3.0.2. This update includes general compatibility changes and a missing patch definition and instrument staff added for Zildjian 26" Crash Cymbal. Documentation has also been updated.

This is a free update for all EWQLSO [Play] v3 sound set users. Users will receive information on how to obtain the update within 24 hours at the email address used for payment.

A Note About Compatibility

Due to significant changes in these current sound sets for all EWQL titles, the use of previous versions of any EWQL sound set in combination with the current versions listed above is not supported. For example, using the QL RA v1 sound set with the QL Goliath v2 sound set is not supported.

All current versions of the sound sets are fully compatible with each other and supported in any combination.

Things have been quiet for a while now, but I am still working hard to bring Sibelius compatibility to as many libraries as I can. Here's a look at what you may have missed over the last few months, what's new, and what to expect in the coming weeks.

PREVIOUSLY RELEASED

Wallander Instruments

Sound Sets for Wallander Orchestral and Band Brass and Woodwind and Saxophone collections were released back in August of 2010. A third sound set is available that combines both collections into one template that's ready to be used immediately. The Wallander sound sets are based on custom instrument programming and feature:

Playback Configurations that load sounds automatically
Full support for mutes, flutter-tongue, and other effects
Extended and edited playback dictionary
Standard and Auto-Divisi sound sets

Cinesamples VOXOS

The Cinesamples VOXOS: Epic Virtual Choirs Sibelius Sound Set is now available. An unprecedented integration, the VOXOS sound set allows complete control of the choir sounds directly from the notation and lyrics* in the score, including full access to all 30 recorded syllables. The sound set features:

UPDATES

Kontakt 4 Factory Library

The Kontakt 4 Factory Library sound set has been updated to v1.1. This update includes several minor fixes and enhancements. The 1.1 update also adds 2 additional sound sets which support use of the Legacy VSL strings.

This is a free update for all Kontakt 4 sound set users. Users will receive information on how to obtain the update within 24-36 hours at the email address used for payment.

A NOTE ABOUT PURCHASES AND SUPPORT

Due to a variety of circumstances orders placed may take up to 36 hours before being sent out, rather than within the usual 24. Support requests and general inquiries may take up to 48 hours.

May 13, 2010State of the SSP: Changes Coming

The Sound Set Project has grown exponentially since the EWQLSO [Play] v1 sound sets were posted in 2008. What was originally intended to be a small side project has nearly become a full time job between creating sound sets, maintaining and updating, library programming and an unbelievable stream of support and other emails.

With hundreds and hundreds of users it has become increasingly difficult to keep up and maintain the level of service you've come to expect as priority must be given to paying jobs.

After much consideration, including input from a number of users, at this time the only way the Sound Set Project can continue is to begin charging for sound sets. The decision is not made lightly as I firmly believe in the importance and availability of Sibelius support, but the reality is that the only other alternative is to shut down.

Beginning June 1, 2010, the following will be put into effect:

All new sound sets that are not financially backed by the developer or another third party will not be available as free downloads.*
Sound set updates, depending on their nature and complexity, may be paid updates. This includes updates to sound sets currently available at no charge.
Current versions of all currently available sound sets will remain free downloads unless superseded by a paid update.
Remote support will be billed at an hourly rate for sessions scheduled after June 1.
Phone support will be billed at an hourly rate.
Email and chat (iChat, Skype, etc.) support will continue to be offered free of charge.

*LA Scoring Strings and Wallander sound sets which may or may not meet this June 1 date, will be available for free as originally announced.

April 28, 2010Kontakt 4 is Now Supported

Kontakt 4 and Kontakt Player 4 are now supported for all Kontakt-type sound sets in Sibelius 6.2 or higher. For more information about the Sibelius update visit the Sibelius Update Center

A sound set for the Kontakt 4 factory library is in the works and has been given a higher priority in response to the Sibelius update.

Kontakt 4 is not supported in Sibelius 5 or Sibelius 6.0-6.1.

April 14, 2010WIVI Sound Sets in Development

Sound Sets for Wallander Instruments' Orchestral & Band Brass and Woodwinds & Saxophones titles are currently in production. The sound sets will feature custom playback configurations and instrument programming, and will be available individually and with both titles combined. The sound sets are expected to be available in mid-late May 2010.

March 4, 2010LA Scoring Strings Sound Set in Beta

The landmark LA Scoring Strings library has received the Sibelius treatment and is currently in a closed beta. Under the watch of LASS developer Andrew Keresztes a complete set of instruments have been programmed specifically for Sibelius. The sound set fully supports LASS's legato/portamento/glissando, divisi, and the instruments feature custom Kontakt scripting and a custom GUI complete with notation view.
